Rainwater Harvesting Project
The rainwater harvesting project is an innovative project aimed at harvesting rainwater from the roof and terraces of the Shrine and storing the water in a 1million litre underground tank which can be connected to existing water systems in the gardens.
The water savings from the project are estimated at approximately 15 million litres annually making a major contribution to the preservation of the gardens.
The water will be treated before being pumped to the existing water system.
The harvested water will be used to maintain the mounds, gardens, ceremonial lawns, and the trees on the western part of the Shrine Reserve, there being some 250 ceremonial trees in the Shrine Reserve.
