A personal record
Lieutenant General Carl Jess Collection, 1884-1948 16 December 2004 - 20 March 2005

Throughout his life Lieutenant General Sir Carl Jess CB CMG CBE DSO followed his passionate interest in the development of military uniforms in Victoria, from the British garrisons in the early 19th century, to the evolution of the militia pre-Federation and the Australian Defence Forces in the First World War (1914-18) and Second World War (1939-45). This display will comprise paintings, carvings, and personal effects including uniforms and medals, sketchbooks and diaries. This is an exciting opportunity to see a collection of largely Victorian content that has not been exhibited previously.
