2/14th Battalion Association 23 April 2012, 11:00AM

The 2/14th Battalion was raised in Victoria in April 1940 and was initially stationed at Puckapunyal until it was sent to the Middle East. In early 1942, they were shipped backed to Australia, disembarking in Adelaide where they camped at Springbank in the Adelaide Hills. They travelled to Melbourne by train and took some well earned leave. As the Japanese threat developed, they moved from the Watsonia camp in Melbourne by train to Glen Innes for a short period before moving on to Yandina in Queensland. . The Battalion embarked at Brisbane for the Papuan campaign. Between 16 August 1942 and 15 January 1943 the battalion fought on the Kokoda Track and at Gona.

The 2/14th Battalion returned to Australia in January 1943. In July 1943, the unit travelled to Townsville and then by ship to Port Moresby for the Markham - Ramu campaign. In January 1944, the battalion returned to Port Moresby and returned by ship to Brisbane.

In August 1944, the 2/14th Battalion commenced training for the Borneo operations. In May 1945, the battalion embarked for Morotai and the Borneo campaigns. After the war ended the battalion moved from Balikpapan to Makassar in the Celebes before returning to Brisbane in February 1946. Leave was granted to everyone except a small HQ party and the Battalion ceased to exist on 22 February 1946.
