Each year the AMC/LSI Association of Victoria hold a service on the closest Saturday before 15 December to honour and remember the men and women who served with HMAS WESTRALIA, KANIMBLA, MANOORA and ASSAULT. The 15 December marks the first major landing operation by an Australian Landing Ship Infantry (LSI) during WWII. As a unit of the United States 7th Fleet at Arawe, New Britain, it was HMAS WESTRALIA which took part in that historic operation carried out on 15 December 1943. Subsequent to the Arawe landing, HMAS WESTRALIA, KANIMBLA, MANOORA and ASSAULT all took part in several major landing operations culminating in the Allies celebrating VP Day on 15 August 1945.
