Through historical photographs and personal stories, this exhibition will present the chronology of the First World War (1914-19) and provide the opportunity to discover the fascinating stories with particular reference to the contribution of Victorians.

Find out about the hardships that our men and women endured and the battles that they fought alongside Allied nations – from the landings at Gallipoli to the battles in Palestine, Passchendaele and Fromelles.

Away from the frontline, discover the experiences of the people in Victoria, their contribution to the war effort and the growing social divisions which climaxed in the bitterly contested, and unsuccessful conscription referenda in 1916 and 1917.

Do you have a story to tell?

People from each community in which the exhibition tours are encouraged to share their stories with the Shrine for inclusion in the exhibition. Share your story here.

The Battle of Amiens, 8th August 1918, was one of the most successful advances made by Allied forces during the war. The efforts of the ANZAC Corps were orchestrated by General Sir John Monash and would be much lauded as an example of combined arms warfare in a conflict mostly remembered for the stalemate of trench warfare.

Each year at 8am on the 8th of August a service is held at the Shrine of Remembrance to mark this battle and remember the men who fought it.
