The 57/60th Australian Infantry Battalion served during the Second World War and was an amalgamation of the 57th and 60th Battalions. It served a garrison role in Australia until 1943 when they deployed to New Guinea, where they served for the next 18 months. During that time, the battalion supported the clearing of the Ramu Valley and the capture of Medang.
After a brief return to Australia, the 57/60th Battalion deployed once again to continue the Australian advance on Buin, on the island of Bougainville. The battalion disbanded in March 1946.
The 57/60th Battalion Association formed in 1945. They held their inaugural service on the Sunday following Anzac Day in 1946 and continue the tradition to this day.
