The story of the 2/4 Australian General Hospital during the Second World War is one of which all Australians can be proud. While statistics do not convey the quality of the medical care involved, the fact that some 14,000 casualties passed through the hospital at Tobruk, 19,000 at Redbank and a further 10,000 at Jerusalem, Colombo and Labuan gives some idea of the immensity of their contribution. The record of service rendered by 2/4 AGH in many battlefields between 1940 and 1945 has seldom been surpassed.
