    HMAS Vampire (I) was a Second World War Destroyer, sunk on 9 April 1942 by Japanese aircraft with the loss of nine crew. The third RAN ship to bear the name Vampire is now a museum ship in Sydney's Darling harbour.

    The Loyal Orange Institution of Victoria was established in 1843 as a society composed of Protestants who support and defend the Protestant faith, the laws of the State, and according to law the rightful sovereign being Protestant. The Institution takes its title in honour of King William III, Prince of Orange (1650-1702) because of his achievements for the Protestant faith and civil and religious liberty.

    The Australian-Maltese community holds an annual service of remembrance to acknowledge the award of the George Cross to the island of Malta by King George VI in a letter dated 15 April 1942. The award was given to "bear witness to the heroism and devotion of its people" during the tremendous hardships suffered in the early days of the Second World War.

    The 2/4 Australian General Hospital were the 4th such unit to be raised for service during the Second World War. Between 1940 and 1945 some 43,000 casualties were treated at Tobruk, Redbank, Jerusalem, Colombo and Labuan where the 2/4th were operating.
