This annual service commemorates the Allied landings in Normandy, France on 6 June 1944, better known as 'D-Day'. This remains the largest amphibious landing in history, involving almost 200,000 men in the invasion on the first day alone, and it is now considered to mark the true beginning of the liberation of Europe. The service also pays respect to those men who would fight in Normandy over the coming weeks as the Allies fought to break out of the beach head and push the Germans back.

The Normandy Veterans Association will be supported by students and staff of Glen Waverley Secondary College, as participants in the Shrine's Adopt an Ex-Service Organisation program. This partnership fosters relationships and enables schools to carry on the legacy of their chosen Association.

In Victoria this is held on the second Monday in June

A 21 Gun Salute is a traditional salute firing blanks from an artillery piece or cannon to acknowledge special Royal occassions within the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.
