In April and May 1941, the 6th Australian Division fought valiant but ultimately unsuccessful campaigns in Greece and Crete. This exhibition, incorporating contemporary portraits by Peter Wegner, celebrates the exploits of these brave Australians.

The Second World War in the Pacific was fought from the tropical isles in the South Pacific to the windswept Aleutians off Alaska. Throughout this region places and objects remain; silent witnesses and poignant reminders of atrocity. Many have transformed into places of peace and symbols of hope. At home, the Shrine of Remembrance and other sites provide avenues of contemplation for those who returned, and commemoration of those who did not. As Associate Professor for cultural heritage management at Charles Sturt University, Dirk Spennemann professionally investigates these places. As a photographer, Dirk explores the interaction of cultural heritage, landscape and human experience through more personal and emotive imagery.
