    Dear Laura presents First World War postcards sent to Laura Brooks between 1915 and 1918 by her future husband Alan Ferguson, her brothers Ernest and Arthur and her uncle Charles Newman. These men enlisted and served overseas in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF).

    This exhibition explores the journeys and sights they encountered, the popularity of hand-embroidered silk postcards, the longing for loved ones and thoughts of home, as well as the devastation caused by war.

    The war in the Pacific was essentially a naval struggle. Allied war aims hinged on the destruction of Japan’s powerful navy and the severing of sea communications between Japan and its far-flung Asian and Pacific conquests. Nerves and Steel explores the role played by the RAN in ultimate Allied victory and features items from the Shrine’s own collection as well as loans from the Australian War Memorial, the RAN Heritage Collection, veterans and their families.     While Australian infantry served in the grim trenches of the Western Front, their comrades in the Australian Light Horse were fighting dynamic campaign of maneuver against the Ottoman Turks in the desert wastes of Sinai, Palestine and Syria. This exhibition tells the story of the Sinai-Palestine campaign and explores how it has captured the imagination of Australians ever since. Read More

    The Association, which has branches all over the world, commemorates the service and sacrifice of French soldiers on Remembrance Day each year. The Association also remembers those Australians who gave their lives on French soil in the First World War and for French freedom in the Second World War on this day.

    The Association Des Anciens Combattants Francais de Victoria will be joined by Camberwell Primary School for the commemorative service, as part of the Shrine's 'Adopt an Ex-Service Organisation' program.

    The Guidon is the pennant carried by the Light Horse Regiment of the Australian Army which is being retired from service. This rare ceremony includes a Regimental parade, wreath laying and formal presentation of the Light Horse Guidon to the Shrine of Remembrance. All are welcome to view the Guidon in the Sanctuary until 5pm.
