Join us at week's close to honour those who have served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy our lives of relative peace, comfort and freedom.
Each Sunday we pause to remember a different event from Australia's military history. We remember the men and women who took part in those events, and the lives lost or forever changed.
Today we remember the fifteen members of the Special Air Service Regiment and three aircrew of the 5th Aviation Regiment who died on 12 June 1996. During a night time training operation, two Black Hawk helicopters collided mid-air and crashed near Townsville, Queensland. It is Australia's worst peacetime military aviation disaster.
We remember these lives lost on the anniversary of the formation of the SASR. On 4 September 1964, the 1st Special Air Service Company was expanded to become the Special Air Service Regiment.
This service will be live streamed.
