This service honours the members of Melbourne University Regiment (MUR) who have made the ultimate sacrifice. It also celebrates the contribution of the next generation of MUR graduates.

The unit is responsible for training officers and soldiers of the Army Reserve and today is part of the 8th Brigade. It has a long history dating back to 1884 when it began as D Company, 4th Battalion of the Victorian Rifles. It was also known as the University Company. General Sir John Monash was a Colour Sergeant of this unit before taking a commission in the militia.

In 1910, the unit became the Melbourne University Rifles. It provided military training for Melbourne University members and the public schools of Melbourne and Geelong. As a University Regiment, the unit did not deploy to either the First or Second World War. However, it was responsible for the initial military training of many who would go on to serve in the 1st and 2nd Australian Imperial Forces.

Shrine Representative.
