The 2/14th Australian Infantry Battalion was raised on 26 April 1940 from mostly Victorian volunteers. They first deployed to the Middle East to take part in the campaigns in Syria and Lebanon, before returning to Australia when Japan entered the war.

After a period of re-training, the 2/14th deployed to New Guinea. They fought on the Kokoda Track, took part in the advances on Gona and Lae, before seeing action in the Markham and Ramu Valleys. Their final operation came in 1945 with the landings at Balikpapan, Borneo.

The 2/14th Battalion was disbanded in early 1946, having lost 226 men during the Second World War.
