Join us for a special screening commemorating the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Crete.
This drama-documentary tells the remarkable story of Lewis Lind, a member of the Australian 2/11 Battalion who defended Rethymnon during the 1941 German invasion. Based on Lind’s memoirs, Flowers of Rethymnon combines interviews, wartime re-enactments and rare archival footage to explore his experiences of resistance, captivity, escape and the extraordinary support offered by the Cretan people.
Producer Colin South will share insights into the making of the film ahead of the screening, which has been remastered to mark its 40th anniversary. Tea and coffee will be available afterwards, providing an opportunity to continue the conversation.
After the event, attendees are invited to observe the Shrine’s weekly Last Post Service on the forecourt.
Presented in partnership with the Pancretan Association of Melbourne and the Cretan Brotherhood of Melbourne.
