Join us at week's close to honour those who have served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy our lives of relative peace, comfort and freedom.
Each Sunday we pause to remember a different event from Australia's military history. We remember the men and women who took part in those events, and the lives lost or forever changed.
Today we remember those who served on Operation Quickstep. On 31 October 2006, the Australian Defence Force began preparing for a potential evacuation of Australians and foreign nationals from Fiji in the lead up to the 2006 coup. Three ships were stationed in international waters off Fiji from early November, but the need for a military evacuation never eventuated and personnel returned home in December. Two Australian Defence Force members lost their lives during the operation.
