Dean M Lee PSM will be retiring as the Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine of Remembrance effective 27 February 2026, after over ten years in the role.
It has been my absolute honour to serve as the Shrine’s Chief Executive Officer since July 2015. I will leave with pride for the achievements of my team, and the rare privilege afforded me to lead such a significant national site.
Over the past decade, Lee has led the organisation through some of its most significant milestones, including the Centenary of ANZAC period, the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the expansion of exhibitions and programs that recognise the diverse stories of veterans—among them LGBTIQ+, Indigenous and women’s service. In 2024, Lee was awarded the Public Service Medal for his service to the Shrine of Remembrance.
Under Lee’s stewardship, the Shrine has entered a period of meaningful transformation, becoming more accessible, inclusive and innovative while remaining true to its purpose as a place of remembrance. During the Shrine’s 90th year, the organisation finalised its 20 Year Master Plan, secured strengthened funding agreements and won Gold for Cultural Tourism at both the state and national tourism awards.
Shrine Chair, Captain Stephen Bowater OAM RAN says:
Dean’s performance as CEO has been outstanding. He has led at an exceptional level, elevating the organisation and guiding the team to achievements and recognition that have exceeded the Board’s expectations.
Recruitment for a new CEO will commence in early 2026.
