A Patchwork of Hope: School Holiday Program

What does hope look like? And what makes us strong?

Explore the Shrine's latest exhibition Sparks in the Dark and look closely at the colours, symbols and intricate embroidery created by women in Afghanistan. Then visit the Education Centre to talk about what hope and strength mean to you.

Inspired by the thread and sewing in the exhibition, families will use popstick weaving to create their own Patchwork of Hope. Children can write a personal message of hope and reflect on a strength they have within themselves, creating something meaningful to take home.

Important information to read before you book:

• The starting point for this children's program is the Shrine Visitor Centre.
• Bookings are required for this program, and parents must be in attendance on the day.
• Sessions will run on the following dates:
  • Monday 21st September to Thursday 24th September 2026
  • Monday 28th September to Thursday 1st October 2026
• Programs runs for 60 minutes
• This program is free but bookings are essential.
