A Patchwork of Hope: School Holiday Program

Join us at the Shrine of Remembrance for a hands-on holiday experience inspired by Sparks in the Dark, an exhibition celebrating the resilience, creativity and courage of women living with the enduring impacts of war in Afghanistan.

Begin with a short tour of the exhibition, exploring the intricate embroidery and colours within the artworks. Then return to the Visitor Centre to discover what hope and strength mean to you and your family.

Inspired by the traditional craft of weaving, kids will create their own Patchwork of Hope using colourful popsticks and thread. Beneath the weaving, each child can write a personal message of hope and reflect on a strength they carry within themselves.

A creative opportunity to connect, reflect and make something meaningful together, this holiday activity invites children and families to discover how small acts of creativity can help us find light, strength and hope- even in difficult times.

Important information to read before you book:

• The starting point for this children's program is the Shrine Visitor Centre.
• Bookings are required for this program, and parents must be in attendance on the day.
• Sessions will run on the following dates:
  • Monday 21st September to Thursday 24th September 2026
  • Monday 28th September to Thursday 1st October 2026
• Programs runs for 45 minutes
• This program is free but bookings are essential.
