The Royal Australian Corps of Transport (RACT) was founded on 1 June 1973. It formed from the transport elements of the Royal Australian Army Service Corps (RAASC) and the Transportation elements of the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). The Australian Army Service Corps (AASC) was formed in 1903, from the various State Army transport organisations. In 1948 it gained its “Royal” status to become the RAASC.

The RACT Association (Victoria) was founded in 1963 and through several name changes has sought to represent the Corps in the State of Victoria. Their patron is the RACT Colonel Commandant for Victoria and Tasmania.
