Shrine of Remembrance appoints new Chief Executive Officer

The Shrine of Remembrance is pleased to announce the appointment of Kerryn Ellis as Chief Executive Officer.

Kerryn brings extensive public sector leadership experience, a strong commitment to community service and proven expertise in governance and organisational leadership and will lead the Shrine of Remembrance into its next chapter as one of Australia’s most significant cultural, commemorative and educational institutions.

Reflecting on the role institutions play in preserving civic memory, connection and service to the community, Kerryn says:

I am deeply honoured and incredibly excited to have been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine of Remembrance. The Board of Trustees have set a compelling vision, and I look forward to working closely with our talented and dedicated staff and volunteers, stakeholders, and the broader community to realise their aspirations for the Shrine today and into the future.

Kerryn’s most recent role was Deputy Ombudsman Corporate at the Victorian Ombudsman’s Office. Prior to this, she was Chief Executive Officer of South Gippsland Shire Council for five years, where she led the organisation through a significant period of renewal. Earlier roles include Director Corporate Services at Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission and Director Corporate Performance at the City of Greater Bendigo.

Kerryn is an accomplished and values-driven leader. The Board is delighted to appoint someone with such strong integrity, leadership capability and commitment to serving Victorian communities. We look forward to working with Kerryn as the Shrine of Remembrance continues to honour service and sacrifice while engaging future generations in remembrance.

Kerryn holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Commerce and a Graduate Diploma of Public Policy and Management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is also an experienced non-executive director and was recognised as one of the IPAA Top 50 Public Sector Women in 2021.

She will commence the role at the end of June 2026.
