The 3rd Division Signals was formed to provide the communication needs of the 3rd Division. During wartime, contact between a commander and his units was vital to success. Communications needed to be maintained at all times and under all conditions so the division could fight effectively. Loss of communication meant loss of lives.

The 3rd Division Signals was first formed during peacetime. It was mobilised for service when Japan entered the Second World War, and deployed to New Guinea in 1943. With steep mountains, dense jungle and perpetually wet conditions, creating and maintaining lines of communication was difficult. It was also dangerous as signallers often had to be wary of being ambushed.

The 3rd Australian Division Signals Descendants will be supported by students and staff of Greenhills Primary School.

Shrine Representative:

Shrine Governor Colonel John Coulson OAM RFD ED
