This service pays tribute to those who took part in the Boer War and fought in South Africa from 1899-1902. As part of the British Empire, the six Australian colonies supplied troops until 1901. From then, these troops came from the new Australian Commonwealth.

An estimated 16,000 Australians fought in the Boer War, with 600 casualties. Six Australian soldiers received the Victoria Cross for their actions in battle.
