Extra Threads: 'Gurkha Shorts'

These high rise, wide-hemmed British-issued staples—officially named, Shorts, Khaki Drill—feature pleats, over-lapping belts on the waist band. They became a fashion staple in 1980s and continue to be popular. Although worn by almost all British Empire and Commonwealth Army troops during the 20th Century, the shorts are named for the legendary and smartly attired Gurkha soldiers from Nepal who famously wore them during the Second World War and during the Malayan Emergency.
