This year marks the 75th anniversary of the commencement of the Korean War and the 72nd anniversary of the armistice that brought active fighting to a halt.

At 10am on 27 July 1953, delegates from both sides signed 18 copies of the armistice agreement. Twelve hours later, the ceasefire took effect, and opposing forces began withdrawing two kilometres from the frontline—establishing the Demilitarised Zone, which remains in place today.

More than 17,000 Australians served during the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. Of those, 340 were killed, over 1,500 wounded and 30 taken prisoner. A further 16 lost their lives during armistice enforcement operations.

Join us in honouring their service and sacrifice.
