Join us at week's close to honour those who have served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy our lives of relative peace, comfort and freedom.

Each Sunday we pause to remember a different event from Australia's military history. We remember the men and women who took part in those events, and the lives lost or forever changed.

Today we remember those who have served aboard the first HMAS Sydney, which served during the First World War. On 9 November 1914, she engaged with the German ship SMS Emden in the Royal Australian Navy's first single-ship action at sea. Sydney emerged victorious, with the Emden destroyed. Four Australian sailors lost their lives in the battle.

Shrine Representative:

  • Shrine Governor Commander Terry Makings AM
