Join us at week's close to honour those who have served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy our lives of relative peace, comfort and freedom.
Each Sunday we pause to remember a different event from Australia's military history. We remember the men and women who took part in those events, and the lives lost or forever changed.
Today we remember the men who served on HMA Submarine AE2. AE2 was the first submarine to penetrate the Dardanelles in April 1915 and for five days she disrupted Turkish shipping in the Straits. By 30 April, her torpedoes were exhausted and when she was attacked by Turkish gunboats, the submarine was scuttled. The crew on board were captured and spent the rest of the war as prisoners.
