Memories of Afghanistan with SGT David Robertson MG

Sergeant David Robertson MG reflects on service in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan (2001-21)

David started the first of his two deployments to Afghanistan in October 2010. A member of the Royal Australian Artillery, he served as a Joint Fires Officer, accompanying Australian Operational Mentoring Liason Team members on patrol in the Tangi Valley. On 20 March 2011, his patrol came under enemy fire while patrolling through a village. Despite being exposed to fire himself, David called in mortar fire against two insurgent machine gun positions. He was awarded the Medal for Gallantry for his actions on that day.
