Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service

Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service

Enhance your visit and participate in commemoration at the Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service.

Program Structure and Details

  • When: This program occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month.
  • Time: 10:30am – 12:00pm
  • Duration: 90 minutes

A unique opportunity exists for Schools to participate in the Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service, allowing students to focus on “How do we Commemorate and Why?”.

With no Veterans from the First World war remaining and dwindling numbers of Veterans from the Second World War able to attend the ceremonies commemorating their service, we encourage school students to continue remembering the service and sacrifice of Victorian Military personnel.

Students will be taken on a guided tour of the Shrine before the ceremony to learn more about the service and sacrifice of Victorians during wartime.

They will then participate in the Shrine monthly service and lay a wreath in the Sanctuary, the ceremonial heart of the Shrine.

We encourage you to learn more about the personnel who will be honoured in the service you attend to ensure their legacy is not forgotten.

Limited opportunities are available for this program. Enquiries can be made by completing the booking form below.

What is the Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service?

The Shrine Monthly Remembrance Service honours Victorian service personnel from all branches of the Armed Forces. In particular, we remember Victorians who served during the First and Second World Wars, who once would have attended their annual pilgrimage in this month, but due to the passage of time are no longer able to.

In the First World War 89,000 Victorians served overseas. 19,000 made the supreme sacrifice. In the Second World War 297,000 Victorians served overseas. 10,900 made the supreme sacrifice.
