a space of cries and whispers is dedicated to the generations of women and children affected by the legacy of war. The large leather-bound book represents the core message behind Anna’s Home Sweet Home series, that more than just soldiers are affected by war. The families who live with veterans after they return can be deeply influenced by their parents’ war. The quotes in the book relate both to Anna’s family and to other families she has spoken to during the creation of Home Sweet Home; highlighting common themes through stories.

The book itself is made with painted and cross-stitched linen, a link not only to women’s work common in the First and Second World Wars, but also to the everyday linens of the home, such as tea towels and tablecloths.
