22 Squadron (City of Sydney) RAAF was formed in 1936. They began the Second World War as a training unit covering army support and towing targets for anti-aircraft practice. In 1941 the unit was equipped with Anson and Wirraway aircraft and flew seaward patrols along the eastern seaboard. By November 1942 the unit had moved to Port Moresby in New Guinea and was equipped with Boston light bombers and Beaufighters to conduct anti-shipping and ground support through the Pacific theatre and on to the Philippines.

The Squadron disbanded on 15 August 1946, but was reformed in 1948 and still operates today in non-flying support roles.

The 22 Squadron will be supported by students and staff of Corpus Christi Primary School, as participants in the Shrine's Adopt an Ex-Service Organisation program. This partnership fosters relationships and enables schools to carry on the legacy of their chosen Association.
